What is different in this degree compared to regular education?
This degree combines business management education together with aviation/pilot studies in a unique context. It allows graduates to have an extended view to such operations as the courses taught include both management and finance courses as well as technical courses traditionally taught to pilots like operations, air law and airport planning and sustainability. This type of holistic knowledge allows them to have a better appreciation and understanding not only of operations taking place on the ground but also have a better grasp of the complexities of air operations, thus bridging the gap between pilots and ground operators.
Where can graduates of the program work?
Upon graduation, the employability prospects are high. In addition to paving the way to acquire a commercial pilot license, the program aims at preparing students to qualify for a variety of positions such as airline pilot, airport director, airport manager, director of airport operations, director of airport security, airport financial officer, and director of airline operations.
What kind of courses are included in the program?
The program is designed to allow candidates to gain both the practical and theoretical skills related to the aviation industry as a whole. It includes two categories of courses: 1) the general education and management courses, aligned with the program to provide business knowledge and hone in on a number of transferable skills with a professionaly-oriented dimension such as communication and digital literacy skills, critical thinking and problem solving, quantitative reasoning, civic engagement, conflict resolution and ethical integrity and 2) major requirements, aviation-specific courses including the airline-tailored courses completed at Egnatia Aviation for which ±Ø³Ô´ó¹Ïwill award credit.
What is the language of the program?
All ±Ø³Ô´ó¹Ïand Egnatia Aviation courses are offered in English. Students are offered additional support if necessary and gradually develop a proficiency in English.
Does it lead to a bachelor’s degree?
Yes it does. The program awards a Bachelor’s of Science in Aviation Management with Pilot Studies.
Is this degree recognized?
±Ø³Ô´ó¹Ï- The American College of Thessaloniki is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) as an autonomous institution of higher education operating outside the US, authorized to award undergraduate and graduate degrees. As such, it is recognized as a higher education institution by the US Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Does one become a licensed pilot when graduating?
Yes, upon successful completion of the Bachelor's in Aviation Management with Pilot Studies, a pilot license will be issued. Prospective pilots must meet two steps: 1) successfully complete the Airline-tailored ATP(A) Integrated Course offered at Egnatia Aviation and 2) pass a flight skill test with an approved EASA Flight Examiner before their license can be issued by the National Aviation Authority.
What is the duration of the program?
The program is designed in a rigorous format that is completed within 3 years on a full-time basis. The program starts every Fall term.
Can someone attend on a part-time basis?
No. This program is only available on a full-time basis.
Can someone continue to a regular business degree without receiving the aviation/pilot studies education?
Yes, students who change their minds during their studies, could select to complete their studies at ±Ø³Ô´ó¹Ïand receive a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration (with a concentration in Entrepreneurial Management). This will lead to a 4 year academic cycle
Are all courses taught at ACT?
No. Most of the courses are taught at the ±Ø³Ô´ó¹Ïcampus, while the aviation/pilot courses are taught at Egnatia Aviation premises in Kavala.
What teaching methods are used?
The program integrates a combination of lectures, projects, written reports and essays, presentations, written examinations, simulations, guest speakers and field trips. The courses are supported via ACT's Moodle-based Learning Management System (ACTivity) that offers online access to all course material and exams
What time are courses taught?
Classes take place any time during the week days, and are offered throughout the day depending on the level and the schedule of the school. Usually, classes start at 10am and finish at about 8pm.
Is attendance mandatory?
Yes it is. There is a maximum of 10 academic hours of absences allowed per course during the semester.
